The work at present seems to be a lot of catching up with where I think I should be. But really, where is that exactly? I’m not sure.
At least now I’m declining my first inclination to overthink every possible thing. It’s a horrible thing to overthink. I tend to do it with just about everything; it really gets in the way of any sort of progress. To try to combat this, I’ve recently taken to just quickly drawing and painting on trash cardboard. It’s a liberating exercise. Some things turn out pretty cool, others do not. It’s a whole process. The best thing is when you don’t like it – toss it in the recycling bin. No worrying about screwing up a canvas or page in your sketchbook.
The other benefit is that it seems to allow for longer sessions. I spend a ton more time down in the studio. Not fretting about screw-ups opens it all up.
