Let’s check-in. It’s been a while.

Muddling through the first few months of 2026, trying to find the time to do the things I want to do and not finding it completely necessary to document that stuff. It’s mundane, boring, and nobody cares. There are a few things to note, or at least mention. To at least keep this thing somewhat current and active.

First, I completed another device in April. This one was a bit different in that I actually started it in the late 90s. It was a failed concept with a reasonably good execution, so I shelved it. Fast forward 30 years, and with technological advancements, I was able to realize sort of what I was hoping to accomplish back then; however, the concept still seems a little played out and contrived. I might tweak it further, or revisit it in another 30 years.

Second, I’ve been gathering supplies and tools to start building large canvases.  I’ve never done it before, but it’s time to start some real painting, and I want to move past the store-bought canvases to something a bit more significant. It seems putting the effort into building a large canvas will lend some sort of credence to the situation, a sense of seriousness. I want to start producing gallery-sized works, even if they’re terribly bad, and only seen by me.

Third, I’m participating in the third annual KCAC Sketchbook Project this year, and that deadline is fast approaching. I’ve been putting some time into that. I’ve never been a good sketchbook artist. There’s too much pressure not to fuck it up. I mainly just wanted to participate to get acquainted with the KC art community and take a timid step into the local art scene.

Finally, still exploring and refining my painting skills. It’s coming along pretty well, but I’m still trying to break some bad habits. Repetition is the prescription, but I also think that jumping into a large-scale painting all willy-nilly might be just what I need.
